It is hard to build the drama of the 4X400 in one short paragraph. Our team returned 3 from last years defending champions. It took us half the season to find the 4th. RiverDell was an upstart challenger with a very fast anchor runner and a faster time than us in their sectional meet. The Ridgewood girls had an up and down evening. Katherine getting a PR in the hurdles, Caitlyn running an exciting 3rd in the 100 but losing a close pole vault, Clair being spiked and losing her shoe in the 1600 and Jennifer losing a exciting 800 to the Glen Rock girl. As the 3200's were being run Jennifer was laying on the track with her legs up trying to recover from her 800 and the tension was building. When the gun sounded it appeared that Caitlyn didn't really have zip in her legs and she handed off to Clair in a close but down 5th. Clair went after the leaders but at the 200 mark 5 meters separated all 6 teams . This was shaping up as one of the closest BMOC races ever. Clair lost some ground to the sprinters in the final straight and in the crowd at the exchange she had trouble finding Jennifer. After almost going out of the zone Jennifer goes out a badly behind 5th. But this just set the stage for what might be the most exciting 4X400 finish in Ridgewood's history. Jennifer gained and gained, slowly eating up the deficient and after running a great straight away hands off to sister and fellow captain Katherine. Katheinie would not be denied finally getting Ridgeood into the lead with about 10 meters left in the race. Katheine was in 3rd place with 100meters to go. One could see that there was only one way she was going to finish: first!
